Ramadan is the month of blessings and divine mercy. It is the Holy month to be closer to Allah (SWT), reset spirituality, and commit to performing virtuous deeds. It is a great time for repentance, commitment to avoid sins and to seek Allah’s forgiveness. And the best way to do this is to make Duas (supplications or prayers) in the month of Ramadan.
The Holy Quran emphasises believers to make Dua and states that:
“Your Lord says, ‘Call on Me and I will answer you’”
The importance of doing Duas can be known through this Hadith, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Dua is the essence of worship.”
Making Duas, reciting supplications and offering prayers in Ramadan please Allah (SWT). Dua is a weapon that strengthens our faith and grants us victory in this life and hereafter. It is said that the Dua of a fasting person is always accepted. The reward for good deeds (e.g making Ramadan Duas) is multiplied in Ramadan compared to normal months.
Therefore, as a true believer, we need to learn what Duas to make in Ramadan, when and how to make them. Let’s learn the basic Duas or supplications to make in the Holy month of Ramadan.
Dua to Reach Ramadan
Hadhrat Ubaadah bin Saamit says that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to teach the companions this Dua to reach Ramadan:
اَللَّهُمَّ سَلِّمْنِيْ لِرَمَضَانَ وَ سَلِّمْ رَمَضَانَ لِيْ وَ سَلِّمْهُ لِيْ مُتَقَبَّلًا
Allahumma Sallimni li Ramadan, Wa Sallim Ramadana li, Wasallamhu li Mutaqabbala
O Allah! Safeguard me for the Month of Ramadan (by making me see the Month of Ramadan healthy and fit so that I can take maximum benefit from it), and safeguard the Month of Ramadan for me (by making the conditions in it such that I can take maximum benefit from it) and accept it from me.
Dua When you See the Crescent Moon
اللَّهمَّ أَهلَّهُ علينَا بالأمنِ والإيمانِ والسَّلامةِ والإسلامِ ربِّي وربُّكَ اللَّهُ
Allahumma ahillahu alayna bil-amni wal-iman was-salaamati wal-islam. Rabbi wa rabbuka Allah.
Oh Allah, make it a start full of peace and faith, safety and Islam. My lord and your lord is Allah.
Dua Before Suhoor
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْراً مِنْهُ
Allaahumma baarik lanaa feehi wa ‘at’imnaa khayran minhu
O Allah, bless us in it and provide us with better than it.
